It is a non-depolarizing muscle relaxant with a chemical structure belonging to the benzylisoquinoline class of compounds. Its super-fast onset of action (within 2 minutes) and short duration of effect (15 minutes) increase with the dose, but the duration of action is not greatly prolonged. It has no effect on the cardiovascular system at usual doses. It induces the release of histamine and maintains muscle relaxation.
